Based on the election results, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine issued an order appointing Vasyl KARPUSHA as rector of SumDU (as of 1 June 2026) for a five-year term.

His convincing victory in elections was a logical culmination of his previous years leading this prestigious institution and a catalyst for future achievements. Vasyl KARPUSHA received a new mandate of trust from the university community to implement innovative plans and strategies for success, to strengthen SumDU position as one of Ukraine’s leading scientific and educational centers. His candidacy was supported by 81.9% of voters who participated in the election. Overall, voter turnout was 84% of the total number of staff and students, which demonstrates high level of engagement and unity among the university community, which operates in a border region.

Note: Vasyl KARPUSHA is PhD in Physical and Mathematical Sciences and associate professor. He has dedicated over 30 years of his professional career to SumDU, rising from senior lecturer to head of the university. Over the years, he has served as executive secretary of the admissions committee and secretary of the university’s academic council; headed a department; served as faculty dean, vice rector for scientific and pedagogical work, and first vice rector. In December 2020, Vasyl KARPUSHA received support of the university community in the election for rector of SumDU. His re-election to this position attests to stability of the university’s chosen course of development and his high standing among faculty, staff, and students.
