SumDU has received modern energy equipment worth 3.2 million hryvnias. This assistance will ensure autonomous operation of SumDU’s social infrastructure facilities and enhance their energy resilience in case of potential power outages.
This significant enhancement for the university was made possible through an international technical assistance project and a Memorandum of Understanding with German partners.
These measures are being implemented within the Winter Aid package provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and carried out by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ Ukraine). This initiative aims to strengthen war-affected communities through local projects (EMPOWER) and to support resilience of cities in life-support services (SUR).
The main goal of this cooperation is to ensure stable operation of heating, water, and electricity supply systems at critical facilities. SumDU, which fulfills not only educational and scientific but also social missions within the Sumy City Territorial Community, has become one of the key participants in this program.
What exactly did the university receive?
The German partners provided SumDU with high-tech equipment capable of storing and efficiently distributing energy:
- a set of 24 lithium-ion batteries (with a total capacity of 60 kWh);
- two hybrid inverters with a capacity of 60 kWh;
- a high-voltage converter;
- a set of special power cables for connecting the system.
This equipment functions as a powerful industrial uninterruptible power supply. It will allow the university to store electricity when it is available on the grid and automatically power the internal systems of social infrastructure facilities as needed.
SumDU expresses its sincere gratitude to the German government and GIZ Ukraine for their consistent support of Ukrainian education and their significant contribution to the energy security and resilience of the university in the border region!
