Representatives of the SumDU Department of Applied Hydro- and Aeromechanics participated in the 10th Summer Nuclear School of NAEK “Enerhoatom”. It took place on 13-24 July 2026 at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant. Young researchers (Dmytro BONDARENKO, Stanislav SUKRUT, Vladyslav ANDRUSIAK, and Oleksandr KULIKOV) and associate professor Oleksandr RATUSHNYI were invited to participate.

Participation of SumDU representatives in this event marked one of the first practical outcomes of the partnership and cooperation agreement between SumDU and NAEK “Enerhoatom” signed in 2025. The agreement provides for cooperation in training of specialists and students, joint scientific research, involvement of leading industry experts in educational process, implementation of other initiatives.

The summer school brought together students, graduates, young scientists, and leading experts in the Ukrainian nuclear industry. The event program included lectures by Enerhoatom experts; introduction to power unit operation at the Khmelnytskyi NPP; visits to training center, laboratories, production units, and other power plant facilities; team-building and educational activities.

An important part of the SumDU participation was presentation of own research results. Young researchers presented reports on development of a main circulation pump and a steam generator for a small modular reactor. Oleksandr RATUSHNYI delivered a lecture on the same topic.

The presented results are part of the department’s research to create equipment for Ukraine’s nuclear energy sector. In particular, the work is being carried within projects “Development of Main Circulation Pump and Steam Generator for Small Modular Reactor” (state registration No. 0126U000865; implementation period: 2026-2028) and “Innovative Methods for Predicting and Improving Energy Efficiency of Free-Vortex Pumps for Power System Stability” (state registration No. 0126U000718; implementation period: 2026-2028). They are funded by the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science. The projects involve modern methods of digital modeling, engineering design, and calculations to create next-generation equipment.

Participation in the Summer Nuclear School provided young researchers with an opportunity not only to present results of their own work but also to combine their findings with practical experience in operation of nuclear power plants, interact with leading industry experts, and learn about modern approaches to development of Ukraine’s nuclear energy sector.

Such events contribute to training of highly qualified engineers and researchers capable of participating in implementation of strategic nuclear energy projects for Ukraine, and also strengthen cooperation between SumDU and NAEK “Enerhoatom”.
