Unspeakable grief has engulfed SumDU. Our colleague, Andrii YEVDOKYMOV (PhD in Economics and associate professor) was killed while defending his homeland against the Russian aggressor.

A graduate of SumDU, he devoted a significant part of his life to the university. Having risen from student to associate professor in the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship, and Business Administration, Andrii Valeriiovych made a significant contribution to development of economic science and graduate education. As a talented educator and scholar, he mentored more than one generation of specialists, generously shared his knowledge and experience, and knew how to listen, offer advice, and provide assistance.

Andrii YEVDOKYMOV’s body of work includes numerous scholarly publications, methodological materials, and theses by students and graduates successfully defended under his supervision. He held key administrative positions, headed the Center for Graduate Education at SumDU, and served on the university’s Admissions Committee. Active, friendly, compassionate, and always with a sincere smile – this is how Andrii Valeriiovych will be remembered by his colleagues, students, and everyone who had the good fortune to work alongside him.

In 2022, during the country’s darkest hour, he volunteered without hesitation to defend Ukraine. He fulfilled his military and civic duty with honor, sacrificing the most precious thing – his own life – for freedom, independence, and future of our nation.

The university has lost a highly qualified scholar and educator; a kind, decent, and sincere person; a true patriot of Ukraine, who not only taught others to love and build their country but also proved his devotion to his homeland with his own life. Andrii YEVDOKYMOV’s life, professional career, and self-sacrificing act have become an integral part of the history of SumDU and Ukraine.
