SumDU units were again damaged as a result of a Russian attack. Vasyl KARPUSHA (SumDU rector) spoke about university situation, organization of educational process, this year’s admission, and development of science during an appearance on the Suspilne Studio of the Pershyi Channel.

According to the rector, this is already the ninth time the university units have been hit. These have included rocket strikes, guided bombs, and drones. This time, the central and main campuses, as well as other nearby units, were damaged.

Despite the damage and constant air raid alerts, the university continues to operate. The educational process is primarily conducted online, while the university is striving to provide opportunities for in-person learning for Sumy students. It is particularly important for first-year students and majors where a practical component is essential.

The conversation also focused on first-year students. The number of SumDU applicants with a complete secondary education increased by 15% this year.

“They are incredible. They are very active. They want to be here in Sumy, participate in university life, and carry out their own initiatives,” – said the rector.

During the broadcast, they also discussed development of SumDU science. About 40% of the university’s budget revenue comes from research projects, commercial contracts, international projects, and grants. This makes it possible to ensure university operations, attract specialists, support staff, and strengthen its infrastructure.

Vasyl KARPUSHA emphasized that SumDU, despite border challenges, continues to advance education, science, and student community.
