SumDU and University of Liverpool have begun collaborating on the international project “Building Research Partnerships in Emerging Digital Technologies for Societal Resilience”.

The first working meetings took place last week. The initiative is supported by the Seed Fund for Research Excellence program. It is implemented by Cormack Consultancy Group.

University of Liverpool coordinates the project, and SumDU participates as a partner. Representing the ElIT faculty, Alina DVORNYCHENKO (acting head of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Modeling of Complex Systems) and Dmytro PRYLEPA (senior lecturer at the Department of Computer Science) participated in meetings with their British colleagues. The participants discussed promising areas of research and next steps for collaboration.

The project goal is to establish a sustainable scientific partnership between ElIT at SumDU, the School of Computer Science and Informatics, and three research and innovation centers at University of Liverpool. The collaboration will focus on two main areas. The first are is digital twins for creating smart and sustainable infrastructure. In particular, researchers plan to work with technologies based on Liverpool’s digital twin, MetaCity. The second area concerns human-centered applied AI that can contribute to societal sustainability. Priorities include explainable AI, cybersecurity, and use of computer vision for industrial monitoring.

The project involves joint scientific seminars, academic exchanges, preparation of scientific publications, and joint applications for international grant programs.

Collaboration with University of Liverpool – a partner of SumDU within the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative – opens up new opportunities for Sumy researchers to exchange expertise, develop joint research, and expand participation in international research projects.
