On 11 January 2024, an on-site founding event was held. It discussed implementation of the international grant project “Strengthening the Capacity of Communities for Recovery through Piloting Their Interaction with Universities” funded by the International Renaissance Foundation.

The event took place in the Recovery and Development Office of the Sumy Territorial Community. Besides, the Romny and Shostka communities represented the Sumy Oblast in this project.

Study of the most urgent needs of the Sumy territorial community will be conducted. The qualification of local self-government representatives will be improved regarding international grant activities, project management, economic development of communities. Grant applications will be practically prepared in order to receive international assistance to solve the urgent community problems.

During the meeting, the project teams from Sumy State University and the Sumy Territorial Community discussed the work plan in detail. Determined the mechanisms for researching the community needs based on the appropriate project methodology. Agreed on the schedule and topics of the future cooperation.

“This project is important in developing the Sumy Oblast potential for international integration, cooperation and fundraising. It organically complements the comprehensive program “SumDU for the Sumy Oblast”. The project “Strengthening the Capacity of Communities for Recovery through Piloting Their Interaction with Universities” was developed within the Alliance of Ukrainian Universities. Among its co-founders, there is Sumy State University.
