SumDU held "Students initiation ceremony"

On September 14^th, Sumy State University held an unforgettable event, which symbolizes the beginning of a new stage of freshmen’s lives - "Students initiation ceremony". This year, considering the quarantine restrictions, the festival was held in a video format, but no less creative and spectacular, with many surprises and gifts.

The university has received a worthy replacement, hospitably opening its doors to more than a thousand freshmen who have successfully passed the entrance exams to one of the leading higher education institutions in Ukraine, marked by prestigious world rankings. Our educational institution is headed by a professor, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of education, Chairman of the Board of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Sumy Region, Knight of the Order of Merits of the III degree - Anatoliy Vasylyev.

The university is proud of the achievements of faculties, institutes and colleges that create the history of its success:

Faculty of Technical Systems and Energy Efficient Technologies. The Dean – Ph.D. in Technical Sciences, Professor Oleksandr Husak. The Student Dean of the Faculty of Technical Systems and Energy Efficient Technologies - Diana Tarasenko. Among the teachers of the faculty - 17 Doctors of Sciences and professors, 80 Ph.D., honored workers of education of Ukraine and winners of the state awards. The teaching staff at the faculty trains specialists in 8 majors in 13 study programmes. In 2020, 94 students are enrolled at the faculty this year.

Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology. The Acting Dean of the Faculty – Ph.D. in Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Oleksii Drozdenko. The Student Dean - Olena Bohatyr. The faculty trains specialists in 10 majors. The educational process is provided by 150 teachers, including honored workers of science and technology of Ukraine, 21 Doctors of Sciences and 100 Ph.Ds. International relations have been established with educational and scientific institutions of the world in the fields of Physics, Nanotechnology, Applied Mathematics, Modern Electronics and Robotics, Information Technology, Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analysis and Energy. The faculty has training centers of the world-famous IT companies. This year, 278 freshmen are enrolled at the faculty this year.

Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications. The Dean – Ph.D. in Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Olena Sushkova. The Student Dean of the Faculty - Anastasiia Kobelieva. The faculty trains specialists in the majors "Philology. German Languages and Literature (translation included)", "Journalism" (with the study programme "Advertising and Public Relations"), "Psychology", "Social Work", "Management of Socio-Cultural Activities". The scientific and pedagogical staff of the faculty has 117 teachers, including 9 Doctors of Sciences and more than 70 Ph.Ds. In 2020, 121 students are enrolled at the faculty this year.

Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management. The Director - Doctor of Economics, Professor Tetiana Vasylyeva. The Student Director of the institute - Anastasiia Kysil. Students at the institute study in 7 bachelor's and 7 master's programmes. For the tenth year in a row, the projects in English are being actively developed, which provide for teaching (at the students’ discretion) all disciplines in English. Every year, about 100 teachers, postgraduates and students undergo internships at the universities in the UK, Austria, Italy, Portugal, Canada, USA, and other countries. The institute’s graduates are well known in manufacturing, business, and banking circles, they work in more than 20 countries. The students and teachers participate in the implementation of international grant projects. 132 students are enrolled at the institute this year.

Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies "UAB". The director - Doctor of Economics, Professor Iryna Diakonova. The leader of the student government is Daria Tkachenko. The institute prepares highly qualified bachelors and masters in the following majors: "Economics", "International Economic Relations", "Accounting and Taxation", "Finance, Banking and Insurance". The educational process is provided by 18 Doctors of Sciences and professors, 68 Ph.Ds, associate professors. This year, 110 freshmen enrolled at the institute.

Academic and Research Institute of Law. The Director - Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Major General Anatolii Kulish. The Student Director - Anastasiia Kharchenko. The institute provides training in the majors "Law", "International Law", "History and Archeology" and study programmes "Law", "Medical Law" and "Intellectual Property". There is a postgraduate, doctoral, and specialized council for the defense of Ph.D. and doctoral dissertations. Students can undergo internships in courts, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, public authorities and the judiciary, enterprises, and institutions of all forms of ownership. This year, 85 freshmen are enrolled at the institute.

SumDU Medical Institute. The Director - Andrii Loboda, Doctor of Medical Sciences. Acting Student Director - Daria Lebed. The education at the institute is carried out in 7 majors: "Medicine", "Dentistry", "Pediatrics", "Public Health", "Physical Education and Sports", "Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy" and a new major - "Nursing". The educational process is provided by 250 teachers, including 5 honored doctors of Ukraine, 1 academician of the National Academy of Sciences, 35 Doctors of Sciences and 175 Ph.Ds. This year, 165 students are enrolled at the Medical Institute.

Machine Building College of Sumy State University is a basic educational institution among higher education institutions of the I-II levels of accreditation of the region. It is headed by Mykola Antykov, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Colleges and Technical Schools of Sumy Region. The chairman of the student council is Dmytro Kreslov. 187 students are enrolled at the college this year.

New students also joined the ranks of Konotop and Shostka institutes of SumDU and the Center for Extramural and Distance Education.

The Department of International Education, headed by Mykola Bozhko, takes care of the international students at SumDU. In total, the university has about 1,700 foreign students from 50 countries.

Excellent conditions for sports are created for SumDU students. The institution has the largest sports base among Ukrainian universities. There are 40 kinds of sports, unique centers for Olympic training and medical rehabilitation of athletes, 85 sports sections.

Those wishing to realize their creative abilities are hospitably invited by the Cultural and Art Center of SumDU, which has about 20 amateur art circles and creative studios. 6 teams of the university have the title of "People's Amateur Team". Every year about 200 trainees of the Cultural and Art Center of SumDU become winners of regional, national and international art festivals and competitions.

The university has an extensive system of student self-government bodies that take an active part in the life of the institution, are the initiators of large-scale and interesting youth projects. They also actively participated in the "Students initiation ceremony", preparing interesting creative greetings for freshmen.

Traditionally, the ceremony paid tribute to the memory of students and graduates of SumDU who died for the freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The culmination of the festive ritual was the proclamation of the oath of the freshmen, which was attended by the representatives of all faculties and institutes of SumDU. The final chord of the enchanting event was the performance of the official anthem of the university.
