The participants of the project, presented on December 4th, were 13 veterans of the Antiterrorist Operation/Joint Forces Operation and 13 volunteer photographers. 2 employees of Sumy State University are among the photo authors: Serhii Maliuk, the Head of the Media Content Production Group of the Media Center, and Bohdan Krasulia, Laboratory Assistant of the Student Media Agency Studio 16x9.

Each of the defenders of Ukraine is represented in the photos in two images - military and civilian. Among them are police officers, medicians, production workers, waiters, and retirees.

The heroine of the photographer Serhii Maliuk was a military doctor Maria Bilinska, who currently works at the Sumy City Clinical Hospital as a resuscitator.

Bohdan Krasulia photographed Andrii Shylo for the “Heroes are among us” project, who worked as a fitter of control and measuring devices and automation at “Kerameya” LLC before the war. In 2015, he went to the Joint Forces Operation as part of 54 separate cavalry battalions. After returning home, he continued to work at the same company.

All the works presented at the exhibition are implemented with a single concept, however, they are unique. The preparation of the project lasted six months, the opening was scheduled for October, but due to the quarantine restrictions, the exhibition had to be postponed.

It should be noted that the staff and students of SumDU are active participants in social, cultural, sports, and other events held in Sumy and the region, as well as national and international projects. The HEI harmoniously combines science and education with patriotic upbringing and socially useful leisure. In particular, the exhibition was visited by first-year students of SumDU Department of Journalism.

In Sumy, the photo exhibition "Heroes are among us" will last for two weeks, then the organizers plan to show photos to residents of other cities of the Sumy region and Ukraine.
