On 9 June 2023, the International Conference “Internationalization as a Key Basis of Sustainability and Recovery: Results of the First Year of the Twinning Program” was held in the Lviv Polytechnic National University.

Among participants, there were university members, the Cormack Consultancy Group and FutureLearn, the Ukrainian President Office, the Ukrainian President Fund for Education, Science and Sports, the Ukrainian Ministry for Education and Science. 

Currently, over 100 higher education institutions of Ukraine, Great Britain, the USA and Europe are participating in the project. Sumy State University is among them. 

Serhii LIEONOV (SumDU first vice-rector) and Kostiantyn KYRYCHENKO (chief of the International Affairs Department) presented cooperation results between SumDU and University of Liverpool. As sister universities as of June 2022 within the Unity Initiative, they realize educational programs, academic exchanges and mobility programs, joint research, access to modern laboratories, online courses. 

Also, participants got acquainted with the presentations “Internationalization through the Prism of War: The First Year of Twinning. Achievements and Difficulties. Twinning Strategy for 2023-2024” and “Twinning: Inspiring Examples”. They report on the partnership results between Ukrainian and British universities. 

Also, visitors took part in a brainstorming session “Priorities, Needs, Future Projects and Ways for Domestic and International Cooperation” and a panel discussion “How Can Universities Become Drivers of Regional and Sectoral Reconstruction?”. 

During the conference, future mechanisms, measures and plans for further cooperation with foreign partners were discussed.
