The rector of Sumy State University Vasyl KARPUSHA commented on the results of the annual QS World University Rankings in an interview for “Ukrainske Radio. Sumy” (Ukrainian Radio).

According to this year's study, SumDU has confirmed its position and is ranked 701-750 among the world's leading universities and shares 4-5 positions among the 8 higher education institutions of Ukraine, represented in the ranking generated by the authoritative international British agency QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

"According to UNESCO, there are more than 25,000 universities in the world. Thus, being in the 701-750 place, SumDU is among the 3% of the best universities in the world. This figure is convincing and significant", - Vasyl KARPUSHA emphasized.

The rector noted that international agencies are objective and candid in their conclusions, as they collect data for research independently, and evaluations are conducted on different indicators, using different sources of information. In addition, each agency has its own methods and evaluation criteria. Even more so important is the entry of Sumy State University to two of the most established world rankings: the already mentioned QS World University Rankings, and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE), in which our institution is ranked 501-600 among the world's universities and takes 1-2 place among the HEIs of Ukraine.

An important component of entering the international rankings, according to Vasyl Karpusha, is the recognition of diplomas of our graduates. In many countries around the world, employers assess the importance of a diploma together with the presence of the higher education institution issuing it in the ranking lists of the universities.

The rector of SumDU also spoke about the areas of international cooperation, the development of which is also significantly influenced by entering the world rankings, emphasizing that its further internationalization is among the priorities of the university, as well as attracting more foreign students to education, thus active integration of Sumy State University into scientific and educational space.
