During the visit of Sumy State University’s representative to Ethiopia, there were a number of events held aimed at developing cooperation in this country.

In particular, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Sumy State University and Addis Ababa University on September 24th, 2021. The solemn procedure was attended by the President of the University, Professor Tassew WELDEHANNA, and the representative of SumDU, Vice Director for coordination of collaboration with foreign institutions and work with international students Tetyana MAYBORODA (Academic and Research Institute of Business, Economics and Management). The event was preceded by distance negotiations between the partners and the signing of the Memorandum by the rector of SumDU Vasyl KARPUSHA.

The partnership foresees cooperation in the areas of academic exchanges of lecturers and students, joint research, participation in grant projects, etc. Addis Ababa University is the oldest (founded in 1950) and the largest higher educational institution in Ethiopia, with more than 45,000 students. According to the Times Higher Education Rankings, the University of Addis Ababa is ranked among 401-500 world universities.

The Embassy of Ukraine in Ethiopia provided organizational support for handling the meeting and cooperation negotiations.

Afterward, on September 25th, the Third Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in Ethiopia Oleksandr BOSAK and Tetyana MAYBORODA met with the Director General for International Affairs of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Ethiopia Mr. Dessaleng SAMUEL.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the topics of expanding cooperation between educational institutions of Ethiopia and Ukraine, implementation of double degree programmes and academic exchanges, research, as well as signing a memorandum on cooperation in science and education between the ministries of both countries for providing annual scholarships to Ethiopian students to study in Ukraine.
