At Sumy State University the researchers discussed the issues of medicine and doping in sports.

On November 9, SumDU hosted an International Scientific and Practical Conference "Topical issues of sports medicine and countering the doping in sports". At the online conference 270 scientists, specialists in sports medicine, physical culture, sports and physical rehabilitation from different countries of the world took part.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, SumDU, Athletics Federation of Ukraine, National Anti-Doping Center of Ukraine, under the auspices of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO, with the participation of REHAB project consortium of EU Erasmus+.

Head of organizing committee of the conference - Head of the Academic Council, Honorary Rector of SumDU, Head of Sumy autonomous subdivision "Sports Student Union of Ukraine" Anatoliy VASYLYEV presented the sports infrastructure of SumDU and noted that sport had always been a significant component of the university activities.

“On the basis of the university 42 sports are developed, the infrastructure has been extended, two State Olympic Training Centers function. In addition, one of the structural units of SumDU is a powerful Medical Institute, which includes the University Clinic. The symbiosis of the Medical Institute, the University Clinic, and the developed sports activity in due time have led to the creation of the center of sports medicine. Given the high level of professional approaches to sports at SumDU, we can not ignore such topics as sports medicine and, in particular, the countering the doping in sports", - said Anatoliy VASYLYEV.

During the conference, participants discussed a number of important issues, in particular, the problems of sports training within the context of sports medicine; anti-doping control in sports; doping in children’s and youth sports; modern possibilities of medical and biological support of training athletes in sports that require endurance; special aspects of sportsmen training within the conditions of COVID-19 pandemic.

Volodymyr PLATONOV, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the NOC of Ukraine, an outstanding scientist in the area of physical culture and sports, distinguished the development of sports science, high-performance sport at SumDU and noted that supporting these spheres was the practice of most reputable universities.

In their reports, the speakers thanked the conference organizers for topical issues and the involvement of recognized and experienced professionals, provided practical advice to sports coaches, heads of sports institutions on in-depth medical support for sportsmen, methods of sports nutrition, rehabilitation in sports, maintenance and promotion of health under the conditions of the pandemic, and also expressed wishes to organizers to make the started conference annual.
