During the last difficult days, Sumy State University has received appeals in support of and condemning Russia's unprovoked military aggression from almost 100 partner organizations in more than 30 countries. Among them there are leading higher education institutions, international academic associations, and well-known private companies.

On behalf of the staff and students at Bath Spa University, I am expressing our collective solidarity with the people of Ukraine following this morning’s shocking invasion by Russia.

Over the past decade, Bath Spa University has been developing deep and valued partnerships with Ukrainian universities and organisations, including Sumy State University.
We are currently working together on several projects: ‘DESTIN’ which focuses on improving the training of journalists in Ukraine, ‘ACCELERATE’ which aims to support accessible immersive learning in art and design, and staff exchanges with Sumy State University.

We have hosted many Ukrainian visitors to our campuses, and our staff has been frequent visitors to Ukraine. These are our colleagues and our friends.

We stand in steadfast support of Ukraine in its hour of need.

Yours sincerely

Dear friends,
It is hard to believe what is happening in Ukraine, in 21st century. Whatever could be said, won’t be enough. Hoping that these terrible days will be over very, very soon.
We are all supporting the Ukrainian people now in this difficult time.
Deeply shocked by the situation in Ukraine, I would like to assure you, that here in Patras, we are continuously thinking of you and feeling the dramatic moments you are experiencing.
It is unbelievable what is really happening, but it is not the right moment to look more deeply at this.
The question is what we can do to assist you and your families in this difficult situation.
I could assure you that we are ready to do anything that could be helpful for you and of course to welcome you if you would and could come to Patras.
I don’t know how many of you in Ukraine will receive this message, but please respond if you can do so without putting yourselves in danger.
Wishing that these ephialtes will come to an end soon.

I attach a formal letter of support and comfort from the whole IADT community to Rector Karpusha, to you and to all of your colleagues, your students at Sumy.

Your many friends here at IADT have been greatly impacted by the distressing reporting of the hostilities your country is facing. We can only hope that all international diplomatic efforts and economic sanctions will force the Russian aggressors into submission immediately.

Our thoughts are with you and we are here to assist and support you in any way we can.

Sincerely

Dear Dr Kyrychenko,
We are receiving the terrible news from Ukraine. The Russian aggressor has finally shown his face to the whole world. There is very little that I can do, but my thoughts are with you and your country. I hope that we will meet again in the future, safe and healthy in a free Ukraine.
I am praying for Ukraine and its future.
Professor Matthias Epple
University of applied sciences in Munster, Germany

Dear colleagues,
It was a shock for all of us to wake up this morning and hear the terrible news about Russia’s attacks on Ukraine on the radio or read it in the newspapers. We knew that the situation was tense and we have been in contact with many of you about that over the last few weeks. However, we did not expect it to come like this and that it would be so bad.
We are speechless and helpless, but – knowing that we cannot make a big difference at the moment – at least we wanted to let you know that our thoughts are with you and your country. We hope that you, your families and friends (and everybody else) will remain safe and that this unbelievable situation will end quickly.
With warmest regards from Germany, your colleagues from FH Münster and THEA Ukraine

University of Ljubljana, Slovenia
Dear partners,

The University of Ljubljana expresses its great concern and strong condemnation of the military intervention in Ukraine, which is a serious violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and international law. We stand firm in defence of the values of a free society and extend our solidarity with all people of Ukraine caught up in the violence in their homeland.

Our deep thoughts and concerns go especially to you, our academic and research colleagues in Ukraine. We sincerely hope that you and your families are safe. Let me assure you that we will make our best efforts for assisting and supporting you with whatever you would need.

At the moment we work toward providing support and help to students from Ukraine who study at our University and are a part of our community. I am setting up a working group to ensure that Ukrainian students receive all the support they need, including psychological and financial support and legal advice. We are ready to implement the necessary measures without delay.

The University of Ljubljana remains an open and inclusive university based on democracy, human rights, freedom of academic and scientific activity. We also insist on these civilizational values in the context of the European and international associations in which we operate. Within the association The Guild we have called on Europe’s governments, and the EU, to enable our universities to support Ukrainian students and staff on our campuses, and through the provision of distance education where needed.

If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know.

I wish you strength and courage in these difficult times.

Sincerely Yours,
prof. dr. Gregor Majdič, Rektor

University of Geneva, Switzerland

Dear Colleagues,

We are deeply saddened by the armed conflict affecting the Ukrainian people.

With these simple words we would like to express our solidarity with the entire community of the Sumy State University as well as with the entire population of your country.

Within our means, we will do everything possible within the European academic community to support the Ukrainian university sector so that it can continue to fulfil its mission. Where necessary, we will do everything in our power to host Ukrainian teachers, researchers and students of higher education.

We believe that it is essential in these dark times to defend academic freedom, freedom of expression and to maintain the international collaboration that is so necessary. Through the values it shares, we are convinced that the international academic community can be an actor in the construction of peace on the world scene.

Our thoughts are with you.
