On June 24, in the swimming pool of Sumy State University the relay races dedicated to the International Olympic Day was held.
More than 60 children, experienced athletes and beginners, including pupils of the summer school "Aquabend-SumDU", active followers of the Olympic sports movement, took part in the competition because each day is filled with swimming in the pool, various sports relay races, moving games.
The participants of the event were greeted by: Rector of SumDU Vasyl KARPUSHA, Head of the Department of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine in Sumy region Olena PETROVA, Deputy Mayor of Sumy Vira MOTRECHKO.
As Vasyl KARPUSHA has noted, sports, including Olympic sports, are an important vector of the university activity. SumDU has the strong sports base - more than 40 facilities for various sports, and is proud of students and graduates who are winners of the most prestigious international and national competitions. The rector stressed that the university would hospitably open its doors to the participants of this year's Olympic Day for higher education and sports career development.
The celebration of the Olympic Day in Sumy is organized every year, but this year - during the war. "Today there is a war in our country and thanks to our soldiers who defend our borders and territories, we have the opportunity to hold the Olympic Day, not at such a massive level as we have always held, but today children need such a holiday", Olena PETROVA said.
