Mykola NAZAROV (chief of the SumDU Center for Regional Security Research) participated in the Lennart Meri Conference. It took place in Tallinn on 12 May 2023.

He represented the report “How Russia Prepared For the War”. It deals with pre-war processes in Russia, Ukraine and worldwide. The research co-authors were Kalev STOYCHESKU (head of the Estonian Parliament Defense Committee), Giles KAIR (senior consultant of the Chatham House Center) and Matthew JOHNSON (research director of the Garnaut Global Center).

The report focuses on complex Russian approaches to Ukraine’s destabilization. Among analyzed topics, there were political, ideological, military, security and informational operations towards Ukraine. Besides, the Ukrainian resistance to such activities was assessed.

The report was discussed with Michael McFaul (American diplomat, Stanford University professor). As a former national security advisor and USA ambassador in Russia, he acknowledged the research and proposed valuable ideas for future studies. Also, the professor was interested in lectures for SumDU students.
