On 27 March 2024, a conference dedicated to the two-year anniversary of the Ukrainian-British partnership under the Twinning Initiative was held in Liverpool.

In his welcoming speech, Tim JONES (rector of the University of Liverpool) expressed solidarity with the people of Ukraine. He emphasized the consistent support of our country by the UK in research and education. Noted results of cooperation with Sumy State University.

The event brought together representatives of the academic community from over 50 pairs of twin universities and public foundations from Ukraine and the UK. They participated in presentations, poster sessions, roundtables and discussions in working groups. The meeting aims to help researchers from Ukrainian universities and research institutions integrate into the international research network.

The best cooperation practices were presented at the conference by the SumDU team. These are 9 scientists and postgraduate students who are currently in the UK and work together with their Liverpool colleagues.

Close cooperation between SumDU and Liverpool has opened up new opportunities for scientific and academic development. Research contacts were established with British researchers. Academic mobility programs were introduced. Training sessions and internships were held. Joint training of graduates was launched. Valuable research equipment was obtained.

“The opportunity to gain experience from the British academic culture is particularly valuable. In this free academic environment, the well-known expression “as shown by the research of British scientists” becomes clear. The next step in our cooperation should be the continuation and launch of new joint research prioritized for the current needs of our country,” – said Yurii PETRUSHENKO. He is a conference participant and Head of the Department of International Economic Relations at the SumDU Institute of Business, Economics and Management.

According to Kostiantyn KYRYCHENKO (a coordinator of the Twinning Initiative at Sumy State University and head of the International Cooperation Department), cooperation with the University of Liverpool is carried out in a wide range of areas. It comprises research, grant projects, academic mobility, professional development, cooperation of media centers, libraries, etc. Almost 300 employees and students are involved in the cooperation. The annual contribution of British partners to support and develop bilateral partnership with Sumy State University is about 20 million hryvnias.

SumDU expresses its sincere gratitude to the staff of the University of Liverpool for their strong support and partnership!
