On May 20, a special event took place at the British Academy  in London to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the partnership between the United Kingdom and Ukraine in the fields of education, science, and innovation. The event brought together academics, researchers, university representatives, and government officials from both countries to strengthen scientific ties and discuss the role of research and innovation in Ukraine’s recovery.

As part of the event, Professor Ihor Potapov — Head of the UK–Ukraine Research Twinning project at the University of Liverpool, Coordinator of the UK-Ukraine Mentoring Scheme , and member of the Science for Ukraine  initiative — presented the results of the collaboration between Sumy State University and its twinning partner, the University of Liverpool.

A particular honour for SumDU was the invitation of three of its PhD students — Kateryna Zhuk, Alina Rasokhina, and Tetiana Perederii — who are currently undertaking research fellowships at the University of Liverpool within a co- supervision research fellowship programme between the two partner universities. During the event’s poster session, they had the opportunity to showcase their collaborative research, developed within the framework of the UK–Ukraine Twinning Initiative — a programme that aims to support the resilience of Ukrainian science and education during wartime and foster long-term academic partnerships.

Among the keynote speakers were Sir Patrick Vallance, UK Minister for Science, and Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine , who both emphasized the vital importance of international scientific cooperation and continued support for the Ukrainian academic community.

Sumy State University extends its sincere gratitude to the British Academy and all partners involved for their trust, support, and fruitful collaboration.
