SumDU, together with the International Association for Technological Development and Innovation and the Polytechnic University of Porto, organized and successfully held the 8th International Conference “Design, Modeling, Manufacturing: Innovation Exchange” (DSMIE-2025).
Participation in this authoritative scientific forum was an important event for the SumDU research community. It allowed to present a number of applied developments in mechanical engineering, material science, environment technologies.
A special role in organizing the event was played by the co-founder and chairman of the conference –Vitalii IVANOV (professor; head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Machine Tools and Instruments; deputy dean for international cooperation of the TESET Faculty, DSc in Technology).
Thanks to his experience, scientific achievements, and extensive international connections, the conference was distinguished by its high level of organization, large-scale participation of foreign partners, and a substantive program. Under the leadership of professor Vitalii IVANOV, a powerful platform for interdisciplinary cooperation and discussion of innovative approaches in design, modeling, and manufacturing among scientists and industrialists has been formed. His initiative and professional activities strengthen the international image of SumDU as a powerful center of research innovation and reliable partnership.
The scientific achievements of the department team were complemented by presentations of Artem YEVTUKHOV (PhD, associate professor, who presented patented developments for manufacture of complex-profile machine-building parts) and Yuliia DENYSENKO (PhD, senior lecturer, who presented approaches to improving design and technological preparation for manufacture of molds for complex-profile plastic parts).
Ruslan OSTROHA (head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, DSc in Technology, associate professor) presented results of research in granulation of complex mixed fertilizers. His developments were obtained as part of the EURIZON project funded by the European Union (Horizon 2020, Grant Agreement No. 871072). It led to founding the TerraVita Recovery startup initiative, aimed at restoring degraded soils in areas of man-made and military stress. Conference participants highly appreciated the innovative approach to creating functionalized fertilizers with the potential for environmental remediation.
The research of Khrystyna BERLADIR (PhD, associate professor of the Department of Applied Material Science and Technology of Structural Materials) and her colleagues was devoted to new-generation biomaterials. In particular, the research concerned antibacterial properties of biodegradable 3D-printed polymers containing silver nanoparticles, which has prospects for tissue engineering.
In addition to presenting reports, SumDU representatives also participated in moderating sections. They maintained a high level of discussion and ensured interdisciplinary exchange of experience.
SumDU expresses its sincere gratitude to professor Francisco SILVA (conference co-chair) from the Polytechnic University of Porto, and the Presidium of the International Association for Technological Development and Innovation for jointly organizing the conference in Portugal.
DSMIE-2025 once again confirmed SumDU status as a university open to innovation and international scientific cooperation.
