On 14th of November 2019 the round-table “Nigeria & Ukraine. Internationalization of Education: Perspectives and Exposure Programs” was held in frames of cooperation between SumDU and Bingham University and was devoted to the discussion of further development of cooperation between universities and presentation of programs of academic mobility, faculty exchange, internationalization of educational programs and lecturing.

On 4th-8th of November Sumy State University staff joined the events within the international information week of the EU Erasmus+ programme in Kyiv. It was held by National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine along with support of the European Union Delegation and the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency of the European Commission.

On 23rd-24th of October the large-scale event “International Days@SumDU” took place at Sumy State University. Its main goal was to promote internationalization and engage the broader community to international cooperation opportunities. Students and staff members participated in presentations of international programmes, trainings and open lectures on academic mobility, project management, partnerships, cross-cultural environment and many other aspects of internationalization in higher education. The event was attended by SumDU reliable partners, representatives of offices of international programmes as well as diplomatic missions. The guests from universities in Ireland, Germany, Poland, Nigeria, National Erasmus+ Office, American Councils and British Council have greatly contributed to the event being among lecturers and coaches.

On October 16th Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University hosted the XXI meeting of the Consortium of Ukrainian universities and Warsaw university. The Consortium gathered representatives of 12 education institutions from Ukraine, the Consul General of the Republic of Poland Damian Ciarcinski, director of the Center of East European studies of Warsaw university, honoured professor (NaUKMA), honoured doctor of the National University “Ostroh Academy” Jan Malicki.

Sumy State University welcomes two faculty members from Bingham University (Nigeria) to lecture for three months in the framework of cooperation agreement between institutions. Associate Professor of Economic Department Mr. Abayomi Awujola has arrived to SumDU for teaching at Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies “UAB”, together with Associate Professor of Computer Science Department Mr. Faki Agebee Silas who will conduct teaching at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology.

Meanwhile, 4 lecturers of SumDU are currently lecturing at economic department of Bingham University for the period of 3 months. The delegation of SumDU consists of the teachers of Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management – Olena Shkarupa and Ivan Shkarupa, and teachers of the Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies “UAB” – Fedir Zhuravka and Serhii Mynenko.

On September 30th – October 4th the delegation from Bath Spa University (Bath, UK) - Professor Inna Pomorina and Professor Lu Liu of the Business School and Postgraduate Coordinator Sean Cameron, visited Sumy State University under the joint Erasmus+ KA107 project. The visit agenda contained meetings with university management, teaching and research staff of the Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management, as well as Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies “UAB” where detailed discussion about business-related study programmes as well as possibilities for joint research took place. Besides, British colleagues led training workshops for SumDU students and staff on new developments in the UK higher education, the role of TEF and REF, effective teaching and research in economics. As a result of the visit it was agreed to develop further cooperation with the support of international grant programmes, in particular Erasmus+ and the British Council.

On September 23rd-27th SumDU hosted a series of workshops for teachers and representatives of the university administration. They were aimed at improvement of the overall quality of training within the joint Czech project "Support of young university capacity in education and research and science activities in Ukraine”. A 3-day workshop for teachers on the use of digital technology in the educational process brought about 40 interested participants from SumDU and Sumy National Agrarian University, who enjoyed studying and practicing such tools as the Digital Badges, Quizlet, Kahoot, Padlet, Mentimeter, Office Day. The next workshop was aimed at teachers and those responsible for organizing students’ industrial practice and internships. They practiced on designing the questionnaire that can be used later for evaluation of the students’ feedback who had completed the practical training, internship or apprenticeship programme. All the participants were awarded the certificates of participation in a multi-day international seminar.

In 2019, representatives of Ukraine applied for participation in the program of advanced training in pathology for the first time with the support of the European Society of Pathology (ESP). Roman Moskalenko, SumDU Associate Professor of Pathological Anatomy Department, became one of the 23 winners (two of them are from Ukraine). The scientist got the internship opportunity for two months at the Center of advanced training of ESP in endocrine pathology focusing on thyroid and parathyroid tumors in Porto (Portugal) under the guidance of the famous Professor Manuel Sobrinio Simoes. The results were announced at the General Assembly of the European Society of Pathology in Nice (France).

Mykyta Holoborodko, the first-year student of the Medical Institute of SumDU, won a bronze medal at the World Judo Cadet Championship in Almaty (Kazakhstan). The athlete became one of the best in the weight category up to 50 kg. He won all the sparrings of the championship in order to reach the semi-final. In the fight for the bronze medal Mykyta won over the Taipei sportsman Hsu Chun-Kai.

Sumy State University has started implementation of cooperation agreement with Bingham University (Nigeria), which provides the exchange of students, undergraduate students and lecturers. In the framework of the signed agreement and as a result of joint efforts of the Deputy Director of Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management for coordination of cooperation with foreign institutes and for work with foreign students Tetyana Mayboroda and Advancement Office coordinator of Bingham University Dabur Missal, SumDU representatives for the first time came to Bingham University for teaching and internship program at the Department of Economics.
