On 24 February, marking the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion, Acting Rector of Sumy State University Vasyl Karpusha took part in the international forum “Beyond Visibility: How War Transforms Education, Science, and Culture.”
The event was organised by the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies (GCUS) , an initiative launched in summer 2024 with the support of the First Lady of Ukraine.
SumDU hosted the seminar “Opportunities for Development of Startup and Small Business Ideas in the Sumy Community”. The event brought together scientists and students, city officials, and business experts to find practical solutions for developing local innovation.

24 February 2026 marks four years since the start of the Russian full-scale invasion into. Ukraine. This event forever changed our lives, university, and the entire country.
On February 9–13, 2026, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics, Entrepreneurship and Business Administration of the Academic and Research Institute of Business, Economics and Management (ARI BEM), Inna Koblianska, took part in the International Workshop on Leadership and Stability held at the Institute for Strategic Studies, Research and Analysis of the National Defence University in Islamabad.
From February 11 to 13, the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen–Nuremberg (Germany) hosted the second interim management meeting of the international Erasmus+ project DigiUni: Digital University – Open Ukrainian Initiative. Sumy State University was represented at the consortium discussions by Vice-Rector for Research and Academic Affairs, Ivan KOZII, and Director of the E-Learning Technologies Center, Yurii ZUBAN.
The implementation of the international project Service-Learning in Higher Education for Ukraine’s Recovery (ServU), No. 101128922 – ServU – ERASMUS-EDU-2023-CBHE, continues within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme (ERASMUS-EDU-2023-CBHE).
The team of Sumy State University, represented by Dr. Oksana Shovkoplias (Department of Computer Science), Dr. Anna Nenia (Department of Information Technologies), and Dr. Yurii Zuban (E-Learning Technologies Center), has actively joined the intensive phase of the international Erasmus+ project Digital University – Open Ukrainian Initiative (DigiUni).
THEA Ukraine Lead once again brought together Ukrainian university leaders in Münster – this time for an in-depth conversation about teams, talent, conflict, and change management in times of war. The On-Site Workshop, held on 26–29 January 2026, became not only a training module but also a space for shared reflection and partnership.
Sumy State University ranks second among Ukrainian institutions in the January 2026 edition of the international Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics). It follows Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
On 28 January 2026, the British rating agency Quacquarelli Symonds published the third edition of the annual QS World University Rankings: Europe 2026. It includes higher education institutions from over 40 member countries of the Council of Europe. Ukraine is represented by 58 universities in this ranking, which is a record number for QS rankings.
