The SumDU volunteering movement has a long and meaningful history. Founded in 2006 on the initiative of the students themselves, it has brought together people who want to help others and change the world for the better. Over the years, SumDU volunteers have implemented numerous charitable projects aimed at supporting the military, helping stray animals, environmental initiatives, and much more. Representatives of SumDU volunteer unit told us what attracted them to this activity and what exactly they do.
On 12 February 2025, the traditional futsal tournament (the Rector’s Cup of Sumy State University), took place at the SumDU Student Sports Palace. Four teams from Sumy and Shostka took part in the competition: Barsa Children and Youth Sports School, Barsa Boarding Lyceum and Barsa Football Center.
SumDU hospitably welcomed participants of the educational forum, which included awarding winners of the final stage of the first round of the local all-Ukrainian competition “Teacher of the Year 2025”.
On 31 January 2025, SumDU hosted a staff conference, during which rector Vasyl KARPUSHA presented results of university work in 2024 and the main tasks for 2025.
According to the updated data of the Web of Universities Ranking (Webometrics), SumDU is second among higher education institutions in Ukraine after Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
On 23-24 January 2025, with the support of UNDP in Ukraine (Community Security and Social Cohesion), a regional forum “Veteran Community as a Driving Force for Recovery and a Change Resource” was held.
On 16 January 2025, a regional forum “Training of Specialists in the Vocational Education Centers of the State Employment Service: Teaching Ukrainians for Business Needs” was held in the village of Khoruzhivka (Romny Raion). Yana KRYVYCH (associate professor of the Department of Marketing, PhD in Economics) took part in the event.
SumDU achieved a large-scale success during the XXII World Winter Universiade. It took place in Turin (Italy) on 13-23 January 2025.
On 14 January 2025, Yurii VOLK (dean of the ELIT Faculty) and Andrii PIVEN (chief of the Center for Computer Technologies) joined the strategic session of the Hardware Community Meetup in Kyiv.
On 23-24 January 2025, the Sheptytskyi Center of the Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv) hosted a meeting of the DigiUni consortium dedicated to development of DigiPlatform. It is a digital educational environment that should unite and expand educational opportunities of participating universities.
