Sumy State University is actively implementing projects to support the veteran community.
Yurii GOGOTSI (director of the Institute of Nanomaterials at Drexel University and SumDU professor) was recognized as a “Highly Cited Researcher” according to Clarivate Analytics in chemistry and material science.
On 21 November 2024, the meeting of the Council for Higher Education Quality Assurance at Sumy State University began with an awarding ceremony.
During 1000 days of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has experienced incredible tragedies and losses. On this sad date, 19 November 2024, SumDU honored the defenders who died for the will of the people and the territorial integrity of the state. Commemorative events were held at all university campuses with support of the SumDU trade union and the Department of Extracurricular Activities.
On 21 November 2024, Times Higher Education (one of the most influential ranking agencies in the world) published the first edition of a new university ranking dedicated to interdisciplinary research.

On 13 November 2024, Sumy hosted celebrations dedicated to the International Students’ Day.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science has identified six institutions that will receive state financial support within a startup project to create incubators and accelerators. The SumDU startup center is among them. Other organizations are National Aviation University, Vinnytsia National Technical University, Kyiv Academic University, Dnipro Polytechnic and Odesa Polytechnic.
SumDU rector Vasyl KARPUSHA took part in a roundtable organized by the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in Sumy Oblast. The participants discussed the issue of ensuring rights of children within the Russian armed aggression against Ukraine.
