On February 24th, Sumy City Council decided to award the title of "Honorary Citizen of Sumy" to the Honorary Rector of Sumy State University, the Head of the Academic Council, Adviser to the Rector, Ph.D., Professor Anatoliy Vasylyev.
February 25th marks the 150th birthday anniversary of the outstanding Ukrainian writer, public figure Lesia Ukrainka. The interest in her work does not fade even today. People say about her: "a noble lady, an urban European integrator, an unappealable patriot, an intellectual, a feminist" ...

On February 21st, Acting Student Rector of SumDU Mykyta Kovalevskyi and student activists Vireko Andrew Avuah (Medical Institute), Maryna Oleksenko (Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications), Dmytro Lobas (Faculty of Technical Systems and Energy Efficient Technologies), Kateryna Popova (Academic and Research Institute of Law), Vladyslav Piven (Academic and Research Institute of Business, Economics and Management) and Arina Stolbtsova (Machine Building Professional College of Sumy State University) took the challenge on the International First Language Day in social networks, having read Serhii Zhadan's poem “Radist – tse te, shcho daietsia z boiem” (Joy doesn’t come easy) together.
On February 17th, the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center hosted a briefing "Sustainability and Security: What Ukraine Can Learn from NATO?" The event was co-organized by the Research Center for Regional Security and the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Sociocultural Technologies of Sumy State University.

The students of the Medical Institute of Sumy State University won gold and silver medals at the Ukrainian Youth Sambo Championship. The championship was held in Kharkiv on the 4th-7th of February.
SumDU is launching a joint project with Washington State University "Global Virtual Class" once again, coordinated by the Head of the Oleg Balatskyi Department of Management of SumDU Hanna Shvindina and Professor Dipra Jha from the United States of America.
