On May 15th-16th representatives of “PolyTechnologies, Inc” company (Beijing, People’s Republic of China) and Nanjing Scientific and Research Institute of Electronic Technology (PRC) visited Sumy State University with working trip. They conducted the final stage of negotiations regarding implementation of the project that involves development of methods and algorithms of air targets radar determination.

On May 14th Sumy State University held the discussion regarding the national capability with the participation of Ambassadors of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia in Ukraine. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Estonia in Ukraine Gert Antsu, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Lithuania in Ukraine Marius Janukonis, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Latvia in Ukraine Juris Poikāns communicated with students, teachers, city public figures. The discussion participants shared thoughts regarding the factors influencing the capability of nation’s restoration, adaptation, functioning and positive development during negative and crisis situations, and learned the experience of Baltic countries in forming of citizens’ trust to state institutions, country’s foreign policy course, development of media literacy as a part of information security etc. The event was participated by more than 100 attendees.

In April respected international publishing house “Springer Nature” (Switzerland) published two collective monographs of the Faculty of Technical Systems and Energy Efficient Technologies’ scientists. Scientific works are the result of the research and international cooperation of Sumy State University (Ukraine), Poznan University of Technology (Poland) and University of Minho (Portugal). Associate Professor of the Department of General Mechanics and Dynamics of the Machines Ivan Pavlenko and Associate Professor of the Department of Manufacturing Engineering, Machines and Tools Vitalii Ivanov were the monographs co-authors. These monographs are also included in the series "Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering" indexed by the international Scopus Database. They contain the results of the researches, that will be highlighted at the International scientific conference “MANUFACTURING 2019” dedicated to 100th anniversary of Poznan University of Technology

On April 23rd Georg Milbradt, Special envoy of the Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany in the field of reforms in Ukraine, visited Sumy State University. Professor Milbradt was accompanied by the members of the team of U-LEAD project in Ukraine: programme director of U-LEAD with Europe Bastian Veigel, special advisers to the programme Anna Bunyak and Artem Komolov, Head of Communications, Dialogue and Networking Unit Astrid Kohl, communications specialist Yuriy Svirko and the representative of the Decentralization, sectorial reforms, Support Group for Ukraine, Policy officer Benedikt Herrmann. Guests met with the SumDU representation and communicated with students.

Sumy State University joined the signatories of the Talloires declaration created by the HEIs’ rectors for the world higher education institutions. Its text was composed in 1990 on the International conference “Universities’ contribution to the environment management and sustainable development”, which took place at Talloire (France) in the European center of the Tufts University (Tufts University located in the USA, Massachusetts). As of March 2019, the declaration has been signed by more than 500 universities and colleges from more than 50 countries worldwide. The number of signatories is constantly growing.

Sumy State University took part in the Open days of Ukrainian education “Study in Ukraine 2019”, which took place in Abuja city, Nigeria on 11th – 12th of April 2019. The opening ceremony was participated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Nigeria Valerii Aleksandruk, technical assistant to the Honorable Minister of Education Mohammed Mahmud, vice-presidents of Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry Prof. Adesoji Adesugba and Anthonia Shoyele, representative of Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nigeria Olena Nedryhailo and Head of the Department of International Cooperation of Ukrainian State Center for International Education Kostyantyn Komisarov.

Representative of the International Affairs Department of Sumy State University Olena Gorobchenko presented the University experience of implementing of international credit mobility programs on the seminar on April 10th-12th in Warsaw. It was organised by the National Agency Erasmus+ in Poland and National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine.

Olena Gorobchenko gave recommendations and tips to those who start introducing mobility programs in the university and outlined challenges that university must cope with for successful implementation of such programs. The event was participated by the representatives of higher education institutions and Erasmus+ offices from Poland, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova and Kosovo.

International ranking agency Times Higher Education (THE), considered to be one of the most accredited in the sphere of higher education, published the new ranking of the world universities THE University Impact Rankings. It evaluates the world universities’ activity by the level of widening the positive influence on the society, economy and environment. According to the ranking results Sumy State University enters the 300 world best universities among around 500 that passed THE audit and takes the first place among Ukrainian HEIs.

Artem Otiuskyi, student of the Department of Journalism and Philology of Sumy State University, became the finalist of the contest of fact-check investigations “BezBrehni”. Together with 5 other winning participants Artem got the opportunity to undergo an internship in German newspaper “TAZ”. 42 young media workers participated in the contest competition. Fact-checkers had to investigate applications/messages concerning local thematic and loaded in regional media sources, politicians or government representatives according to the fact-check methods.

On March 22nd Sumy State University hosted the II International scientific and practical conference “Design functions in the modern world: gauge of 2019”. Conference was participated by the scientists from Ukraine, China, Poland, Germany and Belarus. The workflow was organized in such directions: scientific and theoretic basics of design; widening of design functions at the turn of Millennium; the art of design in the context of market relations; intertextual gauges of modern design and others. SSU was presented at the conference by the Director of Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies “UAB” Iryna Dyakonova and Associate Professor of the Foreign Languages Department of the Institute Rymma Mylenkova. Foreign Languages Department teachers Larysa Andreiko, Hanna Kozlovska and Larysa Otroshchenko also participated in the conference.
