Sumy State University continues to feel the reliable support of its international partners. The latest proof of this strong cooperation is the humanitarian aid received from the University of Liverpool, SumDU's twin university-partner under the UK-Ukraine Twinning Initiative.
SumDU received furniture for its teaching and office spaces – desks, chairs, and cabinets, as well as a selection of books that will enrich the university library's collection. These materials will help improve conditions for study and work and support the development of a modern educational environment.

The results of one of the most authoritative global rankings – the QS World University Rankings 2027 – have been released. This year’s study by the British agency “Quacquarelli Symonds” covered approximately 9,000 higher education institutions worldwide.
A large-scale recovery of the SumDU Sports Palace, damaged by the Russian attack, is set to begin. This follows a recent visit by Matvii BIDNYI (minister of youth and sports) at the invitation of Oleh HRYHOROV (head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration).
On 12 June 2026, the Ukrainian Ministry of Youth and Sports, SumDU, and the Ba.Lu charity foundation signed a trilateral memorandum of cooperation. The partners’ shared goal is to restore this iconic sports facility and open it to visitors as early as September of this year.
On 10-11 June 2026, the all-Ukrainian forum “Universities, Veterans, Society”, organized by the Alliance of Ukrainian Universities, took place in Lviv. The event brought together representatives of higher education institutions, government agencies, local authorities, veterans’ organizations, business community, and experts to develop practical solutions for supporting male and female veterans.
Despite its proximity to front lines, damaged buildings, and constant security threats, SumDU is holding high positions in Ukrainian and international higher education rankings. Vasyl KARPUSHA (SumDU rector) spoke for the program “Breakfast with 1+1” about how the university manages not only to operate but also to develop amid the war.
SumDU hosted a special event to mark Journalist Day. It was organized in collaboration with the Sumy Regional Branch of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and the “Pivnich Media” news agency.
Participants honored memory of Sumy media workers who died defending Ukraine and expressed deep gratitude to those currently serving in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Based on the election results, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine issued an order appointing Vasyl KARPUSHA as rector of SumDU (as of 1 June 2026) for a five-year term.
